    特定の構文や可能な意味解釈について、同一言語共同体の母語話者の間でも容認性判断が分かれる現象が指摘されている。本研究では、このような現象を集中的に検討し、その揺れの由来を理論と実験言語学の両面から探り、人間言語の多様性の性質とその創出メカニズムを明らかにしたい。「普遍文法で許容される仮説形成空間において、ある言語の第一次言語資料の入力と矛盾しない文法が複数存在する場合、その言語の学習者はそのうちのどの文法を獲得することもあり得る」とする内因的計算可変性ガイドラインを打ち出し、同一言語において競合する文法が存在するとする多重文法モデルの検証を行う。
