多宗教社会におけるムスリム女性の社会的地位を明らかにするため、1950年から1969年にかけてシンガポールで発行され、マレー・イスラム世界で読まれた月刊誌『カラム』を分析する。20世紀半ばは、社会の近代化にともない女性の社会的地位が流動化した時期であり、雑誌記事の通時的分析により、ムスリム女性が直面していた生活実践上の課題を明らかにするとともに、社会の多宗教的な構成がその動向に及ぼした影響を検討する。
