    1. Reveal where and how anger appears in contemporary Japanese life.
    2. Create a theoretical framework through which to understand strong negative emotions in Japan.
    3. Contribute to the understanding of negative emotions that is currently of great interest in the field of gender studies.
2022 research achievements include a paper on Sanrio's Aggressive Retsuko. The paper is currently under review. I also planned to present on my work at AAS, however had to change plans due to the death of the panel chair. The panel became a memorial roundtable instead.

Data collection has been going well, with articles, books, and videos about anger collected. Enthnographic work has taken more time, but I have begun collecting detailed notes of ethnographic encounters and considering how they fit into the current situation in Japan. This year I plan to continue with interviews and further ethnography.
    Plans are proceeding as expected.
In 2023 I will conduct interviews and fieldwork with those outlined in my original research plan and begin writing the next paper and chapter based on my findings.
