定型言語としての句動詞の第二言語習得・処理・産出及びその体系的指導について

本研究では、ひと固まりとして記憶に蓄積される(される必要のある)定型言語の習得、認知、産出について、多角的にデータ収集し、第二言語における習得の難しさの原因を特定し，その体系的習得・教授の必要性と方法について提示する。特に句動詞に着目し、その統語的・意味的特徴についての言語的分析を行いながら定型言語の重要性を明確にし、言語教育の中でそれを体系的に指導して習得を促していくことが自然な言語運用のためには必要不可欠であることを提案する。
定型言語（FL: formulaic language）は，メンタルレキシコンに貯蔵された，繰り返し同じ並びで現れる複数の語のかたまりのことである母語では広く使用されるが、 第二言語（L2）では運用が少なく，上級レベル学習者でも習得が難しいとされる．また，何をもってFLとみなすのか研究ごとに定義が必要であり，特定方法も確立されていない．今年度の研究では，日本人英語学習者がアカデミックライティングでどの程度FLを使用できるのかを考察し，熟達度の向上によってその運用が上がるのかをみたが，Okuwaki (2015)で収集したエッセイデータをもとに，それとは異なる分析方法を試し，同様の結果が得られるかどうかを検証した．
具体的には，学習者が使用したFLの特定を英語母語話者の判断に委ねた以前の分析方法で得られた結果について，本年度は，The Phrase List（Martinez & Schmitt, 2012）を使用してそのデータを再分析し，同様の結果が得られるかどうかを検証し，特定方法の違いが分析結果にどのような違いをもたらすのか，方法の妥当性についても考察した．その結果，これまでの結果と同様に，習熟度や語彙知識が上がれば定型連語の使用も並行して増えていくということはないことがわかり，特定方法によって大きく異なる結果にはならないことがわかった．また，研究の目的によって，適切な特定方法を選択することが肝要であることを提案した．
この結果については，全国英語教育学会第45回青森研究大会で口頭発表を行った．
本年度は，第二言語学習者から集めたライティングのデータについて，以前の分析方法とは異なる方法を用いて，頻度リストを使用した分析の妥当性を検討することができた．二つの分析方法で得られた結果を比較すると，ほぼ同様の結果となったことから，この方法の妥当性を一定程度確認することができた．また，同様に，学習者の定型言語使用の程度と発達についてこれまでに得られた結果も概ね妥当であることがわかった．
また，次年度への研究に向けて，句動詞の統語構造に関する文献研究，第二言語学習者による句動詞の習得や使用に関する文献研究を進めることができたが，これらを総括した文献研究として次年度に執筆予定である論文の準備を整えることができた．さらに，今後のデータ収集に向けて，実験計画を策定しすることから始まり，調査のためのマテリアル作り，そしてパイロット調査に向けての準備と，これらをほぼ整えることができた．
一方，本年度末に行う予定であったパイロット調査については，コロナパンデミックの影響で延期したが，これについては次年度に行うことにしている．
以上のことから，進捗状況としては，概ね計画通り，順調に進展していると言える．
今後は，定型言語のなかでも特に句動詞に着目し，その理論的研究を進めながら，学習者によるその処理，理解，産出についての実証研究を進めていく．まずは，パイロット調査を実施し，その分析をすすめ，学会発表や論文報告へつなげたい．その後，本格的な実証実験のため，実験計画やテスト項目を精査し，実験ツールを作成し，調査協力者を募ってデータ収集を開始する予定である．
ただ，コロナパンデミックの影響があるため，現段階においては，当面，特定の場所に協力者を集めてデータを収集することは難しいという課題がある．そのため，協力者からのデータ収集については，オンラインで行う可能性も模索する必要があると思われる．同様のことがオンラインでどの程度可能であるか，実験計画にどのような修正が必要になるのかを考え，できうる方策を施した上で進めていく必要がある．もしくは，オンラインでの実証実験の準備が整わないうちは，その分を文献研究の時間に回すこともできると考えられるので，このような状況においても，継続的に研究を進めていく予定である． -

近年、読解力と語彙習得のためには学習者が自身の語彙レベルの読み物を多量に読むことが望ましいとされている。しかしながら、多読に取り組めない学習者も多い。そこで、音声を伴う多読(Reading While Listening:E-RWL）の導入により、読解力と語彙力を増進し、さらに、テクスト読解のスピードや聞き取り力の改善を図ることができると考える。学習の困難の一つが音声入力と文字認識の不一致と考えられる。RWL(E-RWL)により、学習者の英語力が飛躍的に伸びる可能性がある。ただし、RWL(E-RWL)については、未知の部分も多く、今後充分な研究が必要である。

Developing the integrated reading and writing skills of Japanese EFL university students

今年度は、英語要約文作成実験をオンラインで実施するためのプロトタイプを開発した。要約対象となる英語の文章２種類（難易度の調整あり）を用意するとともに、それぞれの文章に対する読解問題も準備して実装した。このプロトタイプを使用し、大学１・２年生によるパイロット実験を実施した。十分な時間を確保できるときにオンラインで英語要約文を作成するという環境は、実験協力者の要約文作成能力が要約文に直に反映されるとみなしうる。
作成された英語要約を英語母語話者２名に、予め準備した評価基準に基づいて複数の言語的観点から評点を付与してもらい、評点に大きな差がある場合には協議により評点の修正を行った。評点結果と英語要約文の言語的特徴に関する量的および質的な分析を実施中である。評価基準の改訂も検討中である。
さらに、実験協力者の数名から実験後のインタビュー調査への協力が得られ、英語要約プロセスについての複数の質問に回答してもらった。インタビュー調査結果についても分析を開始した。分析結果は、次年度の要約ライティング指導に活かしたい。
要約対象の英語の文章に含まれる言語表現（連続した３単語以上の単語連鎖）が要約文にどの程度含まれているのか（原文からどの程度まるごと借用しているのか）を自動的に抽出する言語分析ツールも開発し、要約文の言語的特徴の分析に使用している。人手による抽出や分析のミスを回避することができる上に、きわめて短時間での抽出処理が可能となる。
本研究の進捗状況の遅れには二つの理由がある。まず、英語での要約文作成実験（パイロット実験）の実施が当初の予定時期よりも遅れたことが挙げられる。実験協力者の所属大学での英語学習状況を考慮するとともに、要約作成オンライン環境（プロトタイプ版）を実験前に十分に検証しておくことを重要視したために遅れが生じた。
二つ目の理由は、要約作成実験（パイロット実験）の時期がずれたことにより、要約の評点と要約の言語的特徴の分析も予定よりも遅く着手することになったことである。
しかし、パイロット実験が問題なく実施できたことにより、産出された要約文の言語的分析を今後は順調に進めることができ、次年度の指導法の効果を調査する本実験の検討にも効率的に取り組めることが見込まれる。
今後の研究課題は、英語ライティング授業における要約ライティングの指導法の検討とその効果の検証である。今年度に実施したパイロット実験の結果（特に言語的特徴の分析結果）に基づいて従来の要約作成指導法を改善し、実際の英語ライティング授業で試行することになる。本実験に使用する言語材料と手順を研究分担者ともに十分に議論した上で本実験の実施につなげたい。
本研究課題の当初の計画では、最終年度（次年度）に国内外の学会で研究発表を行うことに加えて、米国から研究者を招聘して国際シンポジウムを開催する予定であった。しかし、現時点では採択された研究発表および学会自体が全て中止になっている。米国からの研究者招聘も次年度中に可能であるかどうか見通しが立たない。今後の状況を見ながら、どのような対応ができるのかを検討していきたい。 -

The research investigated the accuracy rates of inferencing unknown words attained by learners using short narrative passages with controlled vocabulary levels. The accuracy rates were measured on frequency of vocabulary words, grammatical functions, contextual clues, strategies used from the contexts, and reading comprehension of the texts. The accuracy rates of the target words in the form of non-words varied greatly, probably caused by the characteristics of each target word. The over all accuracy rate of all the target words resulted in similar range as obtained by earlier research results although it was not high. The result of the whole research suggests that for learners to acquire vocabulary words, it probably is necessary to repeatedly encounter the vocabulary items in a variety of contexts.
